CHAPTER FOURTEEN
Autumn texted an hour later to let me know she'd had a last-minute photography gig come up. Most of the time Autumn worked taking pictures for the resort, but she also did some freelancing like with the surfing events. She didn't say what kind of event she was filling in for that night, but I was on my own.
I could wait for her to go another time, but I was tired of waiting around doing nothing, so I decided to head over and take a look around. How much trouble could I get into?
Pulling on black leggings and a black t-shirt, I topped the outfit off with a black ball cap, thinking dark clothes were best for snooping. The outfit might have been a little overkill, but I figured better safe than sorry.
Once I was clad in my clandestine clothing (insert mega eyeroll here), I slipped into the driver's seat of my car, Sue, and prayed. "Please start. Please start."
With a pat on the dashboard, I thought it best to give her a little encouragement. "Alright old girl! You can do this."
I put the key in the ignition and twisted. Sue just sputtered. I said a silent prayer, crossed my fingers, closed my eyes, and I turned the key again. Sue's engine groaned to life with a cough and a snort, and I clapped the dashboard in celebration. "Good girl!"
The drive to 1410 Ohana Way only took about ten minutes. It would have been a beautiful drive during the day, but the darkness made the landscape seem sinister rather than inviting. One side of the road was dotted with houses and small businesses, but the other side was an expanse of Hawaiian farmland that butted right up against a mountain range. It was simply gorgeous, even if I couldn't make out much more than the roll of the terrain and rough peaks against the clouds, and I made a mental note to bring old Sue back over here when the sun was up so I could take in the views.
Arriving at my destination, I pulled into the parking lot. The warehouse wasn't very large and looked more like a sizable house or barn with its clapboard siding, pitched roof, and small rectangular windows along the top of the building. There were more windows on the front of the building, large picture-style like for a storefront.
A sign above the door declared the building the Ohana Fishery. There was writing on the windows with the specials for the week. It looked like your typical fish market, nothing sketchy about it.
So why did Phoebe have a picture of this place? It was the same building seen on the internet search as well, but from what I could tell, there was nothing out of the ordinary. I pulled out the photo and compared it to the fishery.
The front of the building and door weren't the same as the picture Phoebe had. It must be around back. I needed to get out and look
